These insulator Stabilyx tights (IST) are wonderful. I have the non-insulated expert tights as well, which is very nice also, but I think I actually prefer the fit of the IST. I am 5'9" and 145 lbs, and i wear small in CW-X. Expert tights fit well, but I wished it was a (tiny) bit more snug. IST has a much more snug fit, hence it feels more supportive. In addition to being a little more snug, IST feels a little shorter than non-insulated Expert tights. I can make up for it with longer socks.
I went for an 8 mile run this morning at about 37 degrees though a hilly course and my legs definitely felt supported. In case there are many of you, like me, did not really understand how compression tights actually help your legs, let me tell you what my dad who is a MD told me. He said that when you get older, and when you run, a lot of the blood is collected in your legs, in the blood vessels (veins specifically), trapping with it things like lactic acid, Co2, etc that should return to the heart to be recycled. This is primarily caused by gravity. By strategically compressing certain parts of the legs, you are in effect reversing the downward gravitational pull of the blood, so that it does not gather stagnant in your legs. Apparently there are compression sleeves and socks for older folks who suffer from varicose veins, so the concept is not new.
Needless to say, after my 73 year old dad tried the IST, he is asking one for his birthday. He says he may just wear it around the house to keep his ankles from swelling.
