Thank you for your advice! I took it and purchased the Mountainsmith backpack for my ll-year-old son's first Boy Scout backpacking trip. For just $10 more, the Mountainsmith is definitely worth it! According to the specs, this pack is bigger (3850cu in) than the Mountainsmith (3356cu in ), but not by much. My son had plenty of room. Another scout had this JanSport pack, and I feel that the Mountainsmith was superior. The Mountainsmith has a terrific sleeping bag sling and the shoulder strap padding extends further down. This pack (JanSport) has 2 external water bottle pockets, but my son has a CamelBak, so he didn't need that. Now that this pack is on sale for $62, it's probably a good deal, but at $90 it is worth getting the Mountainsmith .
