it's not heavy or bulky at all, I was actually surprised by how light it is, yet still very warm. the outside is the polyester stuff (nice for resisting wind and water, and staying clean), but inside feels like fleece

Sam,The fabric is Polartec Power Stretch and it is 100% polyester. I describe it as a light, compressible, and it has a great warmth to weight ratio. It is a bit more expensive but worth it. I think it is my favorite layering piece.
