Hi Judy, in my experience the waist loosens up quite a bit over time- however, mine are a much older version than these (5 yrs old). Hope that helps! And yes, pure merino.

Yes they are merino wool. If you look at the sizing chart it will tell you the exact waist measurement for each size.
