Is this effective against "no-see-um" in the desert southwest? they are TINY! with a BIG BITE.

I don't think this will stop no-see-ums. It will get in their way an deter them but probably not sop them. The trade off with this item is it is almost invisible to the wearer. I think a tighter mesh would be an optical annoyance.

It should be. Its going to be better than not having one! You can adjust the bottom cord however you want so I would say just tighten it up to whatever is the most comfortable.
