I have a marmot shell with gortex and was told by a sales person that if you place gortex under gortex it traps the sweat so he recommended fleece without gortex.

The inside is almost the same fleece material as the outside, but a little softer. It's like another thin layer of fleece. I think that it what helps make it so warm for such a thin jacket. I really love mine. I'm 5'6, 125 and the small fits like it was tailored for me, not too tight, but not loose. Perfect fit over a t-shirt or similar.
