no - last year's model was a model of the summit series. there are no considerable differences between the models, they just took it out of the summit series to make it seem more like something someone would wear casually and wanted a step up from the apex bionic. i work for the north face and this jacket is a shoo-in as the best backpacking soft shell in the store.
