I bought my husband goggles that claimed to be photochromatic and they suck. Do these actually work?

These are the first Transitions lens sunglasses I've bought, so I don't know anything about the brand in general, but for these particular glasses, I have to say I do not believe they work or "transition". I see no difference in the lens when inside or in a dark area than when out in bright conditions. They claim to have only 10% transmission when "activated", but I still have to squint quite heavily in the sun.
