based on my experience, if it says 10 person, they are optimal...that is, it will hold ten without gears, luggage, refrigerator, what have you..that is, like canned sardines. I always find it helpful to divide the number in half. In this case, the ten man tent becomes five and always have plenty of room to maneuver and store your gear and stuff...why not store it outside, you say? that is fine except when it rain... With a wife (ex) and 3 kids, I find the ten person tent barely enuf to satisfy us. Hope this help you... have fun
