Vertical has Comfort sized and styled heel piece, meaning the pins are longer, and it uses the larger spacer (the white one, 6mm). The lighter/older ones have a slightly shorter pin, and smaller clerances. http://www.wildsnow.com/articles/dynafit_faq/comfort_faq.html
