Would this pack be good for a two night winter hut trip? Does it have a shovel pocket, or do you rig a shovel carry on the outside?

What's up Cowgirl,This pack would be totally fine for that. As long as your bag compresses down really well and you don't need a ton of gear. It holds quite a bit of gear, including a shovel holster on the outside. It's made specifically for a shovel or ice tools and it works great. It's just a tiny bit tight the first few times but no worries after that. You'll love this pack for sure!Hope that helps.
