The shell of the rome is more flexible and the liner is softer, but the ankle laces hold your heel and foot down so securely it is ridiculous! The Burton Ruler has a stiffer feel to it, this makes it a little more resposive, but you get a little more heel lift because the lacing isn't as secure. Overall, If you are more casual I think The Rome is more confortable and secure. If you are into speed and lots of quick turns, you'll want a stiffer boot like the ruler.
