Do these shoes need any treatment on the leather before getting them wet (e.g., heavy rain, snow)? If so, what do you recommend? Thanks

Brianguy,Technically you do not need to do anything to prep these shoes for the elements. They have a Gortex liner in between the leather and the liner, this will keep your foot dry (in snow or heavy rain). The outside of almost all boots come with a treatment from the tannery that is water repellent. Because I'm very particular I always put an additional coat of a full grain leather boot treatment (you don't have to clean your boots when they are new). You could use this Nikwax product from BC http://www.backcountry.com/store/NIK0046/Nikwax-Fabric-Leather-Spray-Footwear-Treatment.html?or http://www.grangers.co.uk/productview.cfm?id=14Mahalo, Sumo
