I am considering purchasing a water purifing device and understand it removes parasites and biological nasties. In my area the man made additivies to the water could be worse than nature. Do the water treatment do anything for polution issues.

Nope. Most purifiers just work by filtering out stuff of a certain size, and they won't keep out chemicals.
