Exactly how much dexterity is retained with these gloves? I'm looking for winter photography gloves and am curious whether I could operate a camera while wearing these.

I would say for camera use, buy these or mitts. I have never had good experience with gloves or mitts while shooting. I take mine off. I may have a super thin liner to help, but when they get too cold, you want to throw them in something that is as warm as possible, ie the mitts or this 3 finger.
