Does this pack have just the one access point through the top of the pack? ...or is there a vertical zipper that runs alongside the pack? -Can't exactly tell from the pictures.

yes just the top, it has a front pocket and of course the brain, but neither of them connet to the main compartment, as it would compromise the waterproofing
