i own a trek madone 5.9 superlight and am having significant problems with the chain coming off or riding on top of the teeth. All the components are Dura-Ace, the bike is in its third season, I replace the chain every 1200 miles, the casette looks "OK". The mechanic can't figure it out and said I had a "short crank" on the bike which he thought was standard on this bike ?? but muttered something about that being a bad design. In any avent, any ideas to help a frustrated and side=lined biker ??

Does it come off when shifting or just when riding? I can think of three possible reasons1) overshifting - which would mean it comes off when shifting onto the big ring2) worn teeth on big ring - which could result in throwing the chain while riding3) play in the bottom bracket - which seems unlikely given the design of this crankset.Length of the crank arms shouldn't make any difference at all, as far as I can see.good luck
