I sat for 3.5 hours and Watched the Bears beat the Pack at night 2 degree with 15 MPH and I was nice a warm with just a sweatshirt under it. The only problem is the liner is too warm when shoveling the Chicago snow. The nylon on the outside of the liner doesn't let the pit zips allow the heat to escape. Is there another breathable (fleece) liner that I can zip in?

Any North Face zip in compatible fleece jackets will work with the Vortex's shell. The Denali (heavyweight), Pumori and Khumbu (midweight) and Salathe (lightweight) jackets all would work well. The North Face down and Primaloft jackets and vests will also work with the shell. No shortage of options here.
