can you mess your skiis up if you screw up? if so what 2 practice on???

You really can't. If you don't put enough on, then you don't have enough wax. If you put too much on, you have to scrape more. The only thing you could do is set the iron down while it was hot on top of the ski, and even then it would take a while to really screw anything up. Just keep it moving and you'll be fine.
