being an aussie with little extreme experience but plenty of resort access out of bounds riding id like to know is it better to ride with only the avalung harness style,in the case of an avalanche, because a backpack with the avalung inbuilt would have more chance of being "ripped off"???

That's a valid point, but if you keep all the straps buckled you should be fine. There are dozens of pro athletes that wear the packs with the avalung built in. The beacon on the other hand, that has to be under all your outer clothes.
