I will be hiking and mountaineering in patagonia with a 50 lb pack. Will this jacket hold up with that amount of weight?

More than likely. It is a 50D shell fabric utilizing the Gore Paclite Laminate and will hold up to just about anything you throw its way. Most durable shells are made using between 70D and 40D shell fabric. Hope this helps!
