Merino wool in general is not scratchy at all. I hate that effect of regular wool as well but Merino is amazing stuff......VERY soft! Patagonia stuff isn't bad. You might also check out the stuff from Ibex and even better try the stuff made by backcountry.com My wife has a bunch of it and absolutely loves it!Hope that helps.
