Go by the sizing chart. It's very precise. if but some chance you fall in between sizes i would go with the smaller one. you want these to fit snug. that's where the benefit comes from

If I were you it would depend on what time of year I was using them in. If you're planning on using them all year I'd probably go with a medium. If they're mainly for moderate to warm weather I'd run with a small.
