The outlets are 12v DC. They are basicaly, cigarette lighter power ports like you have in your car. You could run a 12v extension cable and plug it into your car lighter for power if you wanted

You have to buy the Power Pak (http://www.backcountry.com/store/ERK0071/Eureka-E-Power-Pak.html), and they outlets on the Power Pak are AC.
