i am between 5'6 and 5'7 and have long arms, i generally wear a small or medium but i'm not sure if a medium would be too big or if a small would have too short of arms but i hear north face runs big?

I am 5'7" I would say my arms a normal... I found the small to fit perfectly... its sized a little more generously than the denali if that helps, yet the cut is REALLY flattering

I am 5'3 and I wear a medium, the arms on the north faces I have are a bit long, but tolerable, so you should be ok. But I wouldn't agree with the statements that north faces run to big I think they estimates of sizes they give you are correct.
