i am not really a hiker. i need a portable water filter to travel to cities where tap water is not safe to drink. will it be practical for that? will it remove the chemicals in tap water? thanks a lot!

I would suggest you check out a UV sterilizer instead. Since the tap water in foreign cities will at least be free of particulates, a filter is overkill. You just need to kill off those foreign bugs that your system isn't used to -- and a UV setup, like a SteriPen, is perfect for just that.

This thing pumps real slow, so prepare for dehydration or else massive forearms.

Just remember this is a filter, not a purifier. It will neither kill nor remove viruses.

It won't take out the chemicals (they're supposed to be there) but it will get the bacteria out of any water you choose to put through it.
