My head light has died.I have replaced the batteries-nothing.Do the switches malfunction or bulbs burn out.

It could be something on the micro circuit board causing your problem. Using lithium batteries only produce .22 volts extra over alkaline. This has no effect on the bulb's longevity. Lithium batteries do however produce heat which could effect the micro circuit board but over a prolonged period of time, e.g. 50 hours of continuous use.

The bulbs will not wear out unless you are running Lithium batteries (due to no voltage regulations). The bulbs should last about 20,000 hrs with alkaline batteries. The switch might be broken. Does it still have a click sound to it. Either way I would send it back to BD if it is still within the 1 year warranty. If it is out of warranty I would look at Princeton Tec for headlamps. Better quality, waterproof, voltage regulated, brighter, and made in the USA. Hope this helps
