Actually, despite what the above below said, impact force is definitely NOT the force required to snap a rope. Climbing ropes don't snap. Impact force is a measure of the force exerted on the climber during a fall. (lower is good for lead ropes, higher is more common for static ropes, where you don't fall as far)
