Im looking to buy either this jacket or the Venta SV Hoody. Can anyone steer me one way or another out of those two. The main reason it will be used for is mountaineering/hiking.

I can't comment on this particular jacket, but this one gets compared to the Shift Welder Hoody a lot, which I own as well as a Venta SV. Depends on how cold the weather you plan on using it. The Welder isn't as good for layering because the arms are a bit narrow. Venta has nice wide arms that will fit several layers and thick fleeces underneath easily. I'm not sure what the cut of the arms is like on the Gamma SV. Also the Venta is 100% windproof. However if you're not planning on super-cold weather, then the powershield is much more comfortable and lighter than the windstopper fabric.

The Gamma SV is warmer (due to high loft fleece) and more breathable (due to not having a windstopper membrane) and also has a little bit more stretch. Venta SV is more weather resistant (very close to water proof) but the fabric doesn't breath as well. The Venta does have pit zips, and a more technical hood.
