Can the battery be changed by the owner? Or does it have to be sent back to Polar for a battery change?

And that is why I'm looking for a new heartrate monitor.... I changed by battery myself and put the rubber gasket back in place, but as soon as I got in the water to swim my watch died. I don't suggest it if you plan on swimming with the heart rate monitor. I was told that Polar has a special nitrogen sealing process which is what keeps it waterproof.

If you don't want to void the warranty then you need to send it back to Polar. That being said the battery will last longer than the 2 year warranty so if you're brave and have some very small screwdrivers you can replace it yourself. I have done this successfully on my S710 several times now. The battery was a little tough to find, but I found a battery specialty shop that carried this medical grade battery. One thing to be careful of, when lifting off the back of the watch there is a rubber gasket that keeps the water out, just make sure it is seated correctly when you put it back together.
