Is the material a thin fleece?

Definitely not fleecy, as in a soft, warm, & a bulky kind of way, or in a frosty the snow man kind way, or in a way like you are holding a baby in the snow kind of way because its your first winter together out in the snow kind of way. The label indicate polyester: Unless you're familiar w/what that means, i'd describe it as very nice breathable material under a southern California sun. It's not a wind breaker; it will not keep you warm. It certainly looks nice; almost nice enough to swing it for a nice dinner (cross-your-finger no body calls you out: "Hey! Nice work-out gear!). Enough said.
