I keep a cable lock on my bike for campus use and it works just fine for securing the bikes to the center tower of this rack.

The rack does not come with a way to lock the bikes into the rack. You can buy the hitch lock to replace the cotter pin to lock the rack to the car, and then you also would need a cable lock to lock the bikes to the rack.
