I live in CO where I fish mostly cold water lakes and occasionally up to Class II streams (example: Colorado River between Pumphouse and Radium). I also every couple of years make a trip to the gulf coast of Florida to fish the bays.Questions: 1) I am looking at the Redfish 12 and the Native Ultimate 12. Would these be good choices?2) Am I better off to get the standard rather than the fishing model to make my own decision on additions for fishing? Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Both the Redfish 12 and the Ultimate 12 are at the top of the sit on top kayak market, right along with the tarpon and ride from wilderness. The redfish and ultimate will keep you dryer than anything from wilderness though. You can stand in both the redfish and the ultimate, this helps to sight cast to fish in the flats like the Florida bays. The redfish will take a little more practice because it doesn't have the tunnel hull, but as far as stability it's ranked second in my opinion, tied with the wilderness ride (which is a lot more expensive). The ultimate is very easy to stand on because the tunnel hull acts like stabilizers on each side. It's also a lot more expensive than the redfish too though, both are made by the same companies, so the craftsmanship will be equal. You can't go wrong with either, but if your looking for self bailing, go with the redfish, the ultimate doesn't self bail, it's more of a one person canoe type hull with the low profile of a kayak.
