these gloves look like they're nice sized in the picture, but i want to make sure that they are big enough to fit over a coat sleeve. will this be an issue or will i be ok?

They'll be big enough. They're designed to be gauntlets just for that purpose. The drawstrings will allow you to cinch them tight.
