I fit a size 13 in the z1 should I stick with a 13 or size up like some of the reviews say?

They are form-fitting (snug) by design and feel different than a cheap, typical, foam flip-flop. In general, if you usually wear just a 13 with room and no complaints, then get a 13, but if you have several 13.5's (if they even make half sizes that large), or your 13's seem snug, then go up. They will break-in (stretch) a little with wear as well.
