I'm interested in buying this jacket for my 3-yr-old. I'm wondering if it runs bigger or smaller. Obviously, I'd prefer to buy the 4-yr-old size, but I don't want it to be too big. (My son is average-sized.)

In my opinion, it is true to size and if you have an average 3 years old, buying a size 4 is not out of the question. Just don't take out the extra length at this time and I think you will be able to use it until he is 5. We have this exact one for our boys.
