A 15 inch will fit in the medium. If you have a pad that you will be using with the laptop (to protect it a little better) I would go with the large. My wife has a medium and I have a large. I've found that I never have enough room for more than 1 medium size textbook and the laptop with the medium size bag. I almost always grab the large in case I need to stop at the store or stash more stuff.
