do the boots have the ankle things in the back? my daughter used a pair that had those and they tore up her ankle.

Nope, the liner is heat molded so there is no nasty plastic pieces poking you. To get a super good fit with these, stick a hair dryer in the liner for a few minutes, put the boot on and tie it super tight and walk around for a while.
