Westcomb does have a lifetime warranty (http://www.westcomb.com/service/warranty.asp). Plus, their customer service is awesome!Hard to tell. It could be a many number of reasons. But I wouldn't worry about that buying it from backcountry. Here's their return policy they have on EVERYTHING:Unconditional 100% GuaranteeWe guarantee complete satisfaction and an unlimited lifetime warranty. If at any time -- now, next month, in 30 years -- you're not 100% satisfied, send your gear back for a full refund.
