Would this backpack be suitable for a second grader or is it a little too large? Also I can't tell but are those side pockets for water bottles, etc?

I bought it for my first grader and it is perfect. Slightly large but given the future needs seems perfect. The outer/front pocket is perfect for his lunch and the inner laptop area for his folders and room to push a sweatshirt in. The side pockets work well for water bottles ad also tennis/baseballs! He loves it and hopefully I am good for the next 5 years!

i think it would be good. it will be large for your kid, but second graders grow alot. Having a nice, durable pack for a growing kid is always a good idea too.
