The Sidewinder SV and the Stinger are both Gore-Tex pro shells, so they will perform the same in harsh conditions. The only difference in the two jackets is the zipper on the Sidewinder and the stowable hood on the Stinger. It is really a matter of style preference. There a a lot fewer Stingers out there, but a little more choice in the Sidewinder. I think the pockets on the Stinger might be a little wider and deeper. Both will be great in harsh conditions.
