no it has a mesh like material covering some padding its very comfy

nope, just nylon, however it does have some flexible 1/4" or so foam sewn into the back, kind of like the back of a laptop backpack. Probably there to insulate your back from the hydration pack, or lightly protect your back during a nasty wipe out.
