If you're in a situation where it's hard to stake down a tent (rocky ground, slickrock, loose sand, forgot your stakes), you're screwed. You don't even have a tent anymore, you have a floppy mesh bag with poles in it. The plus is that free-standing tents are usually lighter, but this one isn't even that. I have a 4-person from Big Agnes that is lighter than this and free-standing.
