You have to check your airline. Most airlines will let you substitute one piece of checked luggage for a ski bag/boot bag combo so long as it doesn't go over the original weight requirements (usually 50 pounds.)Lately, airlines are charging for checked luggage no matter what, so you are likely to have to pay anyways, but it is possible that you don't have to pay extra because you are taking skis with you. Remember, each airline is different.
