I have used these bindings a few times fut today I could not release the one binding on my own. The release lever would not raise enough to fully release the boot. Another skier helped me by raising the release as far as he could and I wiggled my foot until finally it released. What can be done should this occur again? Can I apply something (WD40?) to the release mechanism? If so, where exactly should it be applied? Is there another way to release it besides raising the white tab? Salomon says "pole assist release" but I don't see how to use the pole on these bindings.

You can use a pole tip in the center of the toe-piece. The added leverage should help to free up the mechanism. Hint: (though you may already be doing this) Keep your heel down and lift only your toes. This can be harder when raising the release lever (toe-piece) with your hands. Hope this helps.
