I have a size question. I am 38 years old and just learned to ski 5 years ago. I am in Colorado and ski maybe 11+ days per year. I am 5'6" 150lbs. My current skis are Rossignol Axium STX 154cm...I've had them since I started skiing and I feel it's time to upgrade. I guess I'm an intermediate skier, not too aggressive but still progressing and want something to handle the powder and ice better. Skiing fast isn't top priority for me. Here in CO I come across powder, lots of groomers, and the occasional icey crud. I like what I've read about the mantras, but noticed that 170cm is the smallest length they come in. Seems most newer skis are much longer than my 154cm's. At my height (5'6", 150) and current ski length (154cm) would the 170cm size be too much for me to handle?

It would be ideal if you could find a demo in a 170 and see if it is too much ski for you right now. If you can't find a demo in that size the safe bet would for you to buy the 163. You have to remember you are buying a much higher end ski. It is a lot wider and stiffer than your Rossi. I think without trying the 170 to know for sure,a 14cm jump up in size and the more demanding nature of this ski might be too severe.

Oh yes, I didn't notice the specs on this page that clearly state it comes in 163cm! Would that be the ideal length or would I just end up wishing I got the 170 later on? A ski length calculator I found says that I should be 167cm

The Mantras start at 163cm. Backcountry doesn't have them in stock at the moment. I think you'd be able to handle the 163s. You'd just have to find them somewhere else.
