It looks like these are more for trail running than for light hiking. Would these be suitable and sturdy enough for a 10-mile dayhike, or should I look elsewhere?

It depends on how strong your feet are, and how heavy your backpack is. I've gone on backpacking trips in Vibram Five Fingers or just random running shoes, and been fine, but that's me. I'd say you'll probably be fine, but that's totally up to your own fitness level.
