Is this jacket sized to accomodate layers? For instance, will it be slightly large as a simple shell or do I need to upsize to allow for layers? It's a gift, BTW, and not for me.

Dave - this jacket is sized to accommodate layers. Check out the video below, the one and only Brandini Couloirlile is wearing an Atom LT Hoody and Phase AR base layer under his Stingray (no upsizing on the Stingray)
