I am taller but leaner than you, I wear a size 36 pant and wear the XL as an outer layer. Really great.

Also, how "water resistant" is this jacket? Would it be acceptable to wear this on a snowy day (or rain for that matter) without an outer shell, or is it mainly used as a mid-layer with an outer shell over it? Thanks in advance.

Yes, my chest size would dictate an XL, but my waste would lead me to a L. Any insight on how the sizing runs for Arc'teryx?
