Is the Mountain Microchill Zip top - Women have a smooth outer surface with a slight fleece inside next to your ski? Is it considered a base layer?

Bette. The Micro Chill Zip Top is 100 wt. fleece and so would be slight fleece throughout the jacket inside and out. This would be considered a thermal (warm) base-layer and so is thicker than most traditional base-layer pieces on the market. You could use it as a base-layer or a mid-layer... your choice! Enjoy.
